2011-09-09 - First Day

It is funny how we are all creatures of habit.  Jim, Ross, Gerry, and Andreas got off to a late start - but the rest of us arrived at Roosevelt within a couple of hours today, between 11:00am and 1:00pm. (That isn't quite right, because Brad and Harold A, by-passed Roosevelt and drove up the freeway on the other side of the river.)  There was obviously no sailing to be had at Roosevelt - the water was just like glass.
We said hello to Idaho Bill - who is a fixture at the Gorge, and the only other person in the parking lot - looked like he had camped out for the week.  Then everyone headed for Hood River.

Kent was very happy to arrive at Roosevelt (away from work!)

No wind - Water like Glass.....

Looking back from Mary Hill - I don't know that I have ever seen the river so calm.
Mike, Harold A, Harold W, Ted, Blaine, Kent, Rene, Handre and his wife Lazelle are here all arrived in Hood river around 3:00.  Big Air Jim had a wedding that he had to attend, so he is flying out Saturday.  Ross is en-route - just late, Gerry is also in route and expected tomorrow, and Andreas - well - his stuff is here, but as of tonight, we aren't sure if he is coming or not.

After settling in to the house - most of the guy's decided to go Biking.

Kent and Rene went mountain biking - and Rene had the first injury of the trip with a scrapped knee.  I am not a mountain biker, but putting it in skiing terms (which I understand), I hear that Kent took Rene (who is not an experienced biker) to the top of the mountain on a double black diamond run - and pushed him off.......  Anyway - no serious injuries, just a scrapped knee.

Blaine arrives home after dark!

The Boys....
Brad, Kent, Blaine and Rene
Rene had the first official injury of the trip - with a scrapped knee...thanks to Kent!!!!
Harold A, Mike, Blaine, Handre and Lazelle, went road biking.  Lazelle kicked the guy's butts. No way to compete with an Ironman woman... ( I say that in a good way...  :<)

None of the Boys could keep up to Lazelle

Harold W was the first of us to get windsurfing.  He rigged his 7.7 and planed a few times.

I went out on my SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board) at the Event Site, and ran into our friend Mike P - who was also out on an SUP with his girl friend (at least I think it was his girl friend....)  I know he made an impression with her when he pushed her off her SUP into the river with his paddle.

Mike and a wet Suzette...

Mike P - Stand Up Paddle Board King

Supper at 6th Street and early to bed. The plan is to get to Bob's Beach early in the morning in hopes of an Easterly wind early.  We will see.......
